Course Syllabus
- TITLE OF COURSE: PE1211 - Weight Training I/Weight Training for Seniors
- COURSE DESCRIPTION: One credit hour lab. This is a graduated program of weight lifting designed to improve flexibility, muscle tone through the use of universal machines. This course is designed for the beginning weight lifter. For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
- PROGRAM AND DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT: The SCCC/ATS physical education program will broaden the understanding of fitness for life by providing general education, appropriate technology, and professional development opportunities that promote a healthy lifestyle.

- SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to do the following

- Outcome #1 - Read with comprehension, be critical of what they read, and apply knowledge
gained to real life situations.

- Exhibit skills in information and technological literacy.
- COURSE OUTCOMES:
- To learn safe techniques for basic weight lifting on Universal Machines.
- To improve muscular endurance through weight training and circuit training.
- To learn the principles and terminology in weight training.
- To realize that weight training can be a lifelong activity.
- COURSE OUTLINE:
- Techniques and forms of safe weight training.
- Principles in designing weight training programs.
- Program Planning.
- Combined stretching, weight training and circuit training for the individual.
- Periodic checks.
- Written final exam and presentation of proper lifting techniques.

- METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: Methods of assessing the general course outcomes and the specific course competencies include attendance, work ethic, notebook, test (1 comprehensive).
- SCCC/ATS Outcome #1 will be assessed and measured by testing their comprehension of rules,
terminology, and safety in weight training.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome #6 will assessed and measured by class participation and attendance.
